Bird, Birds, and More Birds

Over the Christmas holidays, Aidan and I were able to go on a bird walk 3 days in a row :)

I know, I know, not a bird. I was just happy that he decided to join us for our jaunt to Hartlen Point/McCormack's Beach.
BTW, what in the world is the dead "fish" on the rocks?
Perhaps, eel? There were boxes full of these creatures frozen solid all along the beach.

Look carefully and you can see a Rough-legged Hawk skimming just above the vegetation.

Snow Bunting

Horned Grebe
They have quite a distinct RED eye!

Immature Herring Gull

Harlequin Ducks and 2 female Eiders in the front.
We had always heard these guys prefer moving water. To be completely correct, they LOVE very rough waters!

High winds + dashing waves + rocks =

2  happy female Harlequin Ducks.
Surfing the waves just below the rocks at Peggys Cove.

Greater Black-backed Gull eyeing the Herring Gull's snack.

Immature Iceland Gull
